Finally after wanting a custom chopper for 7 years, it became a reality.  The owner of the bike is a Fire Chief in Louisiana.  After years of research, he decided on Jeff Williams from Sinners Cycles here in Austin, to do the build and me, (Mathias) to do the paint and airbrushing.

The bike is a Big Bear Chopper and I started airbrushing the frame to look like charred wood with burning, glowing embers in the cracks. It’s an awesome background for all the murals that represent and are devoted to the life and mission of fire fighters.

There are so many intricate details on this bike that it almost needs its own website. And it really needs to be seen in person. It’s an emotional bike, definitely a tear jerker.

I recently had the pleasure of going down to Jaw Droppin Customs in Corpus Christi for a few days to do some airbrushing for these guys. I have to tell you, they are doing the coolest work on bikes and cars here in Texas. They have it all; fabrication, service to paint.

They asked me to come down and sling some airbrushing on a pearl white bike- the gnarlier the better. The idea started as a Viking theme, but as everybody knows when it comes to custom, it is an organically evolving process. It turned into a Demon Slayer and the juices just started flowing…with the blood and guts too.

Every once in awhile, I get some clients that have an experience that really touches me. These folks went through a very tragic experience when they lost their son to a sudden brain tumor. He was a budding and talented pilot with no fear and a passion for the sky. His attitude was unstoppable; unfortunately, our bodies are weaker than our minds and spirits and sometimes just can’t keep up with us.

This is his mothers Road king. It came from the factory two tone root beer. It was a great looking paint scheme from Harley, but it just wasn’t right for her. The sea foam green is based off of a 1951 Ford F-150 with a perfect cream white to match with the two tone. The red pinstripe matches the Harley Davidson tank badge and another pinstripe that is a mid value gray to tie things together.

A lot of people were questioning the sanity of changing the original root beer colors of this beautiful bike to the vintage retro colors. If it aint broke, don’t fix it…right…whatever. Even the flat black lovin’ bikers ended up coming around and liking it. HA.

There are some memorial murals on this bike, but are kept small and subtle. On the right side panel, there is a prop from a corsair tweaked into a cross with her son’s sunrise and sunset incorporated into the design. On the left panel, there is a mural of “Glacier Girl.” For those unfamiliar with that particular aircraft, it is a P-38 lightning which had to do an emergency landing with its squadron in Greenland during WWII. It was recovered years later and then restored to original flying condition, even with hot guns. The date next to the airbrushed plane was when this recovered P-38 graced the sky at her sons Celebration of Life party.

Life is short. Don’t waste your time here people!

Some times i need some personal time to get some frustration out.  This kind of airbrushing is usually what happens if i cant go shoot any guns.

I was honored to be the one chosen to paint a memorial to this great man (on his motorcycle)! But really what he should have is a statue wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt looking out to the sea with a beer in his hand. Long live the memories of this great man!

But, the technicalities of the paint are a mid metallic silver base, a shitload of airbrushing and brandywine kandy on top.  If while you are looking at this paintjob and something stands out to you that might seem demented, don’t worry, it’s not you.  there is some mean stuff going on in the artwork!

This bike has a flat clear on it and is full of bullet holes.  There is no typo in the title of this post or the name on the bike.  It isa “Yamama.”
