The Green Skull Fatboy

Ideas for paintjobs sometimes come from interesting places. This one started from a T-shirt hanging in our shop. The owner of this bike came in and asked if I could do a custom paintjob on his bike, but he wanted to keep the bike green. I asked him what kind of look he wanted and he said that he saw a shirt in our store that had a skeleton joker on it. This is where the elaboration started.

I sketched out a rough drawing but it was too standardized and predictable. The only way to have a successful paintjob is to raise the bar and then go over it. So I decided that the whole bike needed to be covered with skulls and have a joker mixed in with the chaos of craniums. Tribal blades were added to break up the textures of bone, to give contrast to the deep green Kandy and to add depth to a two dimensional surface. As you can see, this bike has jumped into a new class.

Along with the paint, some bodywork was done and aftermarket parts added. Normally, Fatboys have a taillight/license plate bracket in the middle of the fender. In this case, we didn’t want to have a big ugly taillight in the middle of the artwork. I welded a plate in to fill the void, shaved the rivets on both fenders then body worked those areas to give it a true custom look. The parts that were installed were: 16” Apes with internal wiring, mini front and rear signals and a side-mount taillight/license plate bracket. With very minimal custom work, this bike has achieved a whole new look. Warning: if you try this with your own bike, be prepared for your ego to grow.
